Street Swags founder fraud charges dropped

Prosecutors have dropped seven of the most serious charges against former Young Australian of the Year finalist and Street Swags founder Jean Madden, who has vowed to fully clear her name.

The crown on Monday offered no evidence on most of the charges that allege she rorted the homeless welfare group of more than $154,000 in 2015 and 2016.

Allegations she falsified a registry with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission have also been abandoned.

However, the Brisbane Magistrates Court heard two remaining charges - one alleging Madden dishonestly stopped access to a bank account which caused detriment to someone within the organisation, and another alleging credit card fraud - will go ahead.

Madden was not in court, but her lawyer, Kris Jahnke, said she would fight to clear her name.

"My client maintains her innocence and the remaining two charges will be vigorously defended," he told AAP.

The remaining fraud charges have been referred to police prosecutors and will be mentioned again on January 17.

The matter is expected to go to trial later next year.

Madden, who was the Queensland Young Australian of the Year in 2010, founded Street Swags in 2010 to provide the homeless with canvas bags that convert to bedding.

She remains on bail.
