South Bank extended for 25th birthday
AAP
The Queensland government has given Brisbane's South Bank a 25th birthday present, announcing the parklands will be extended.
The government will give the lease on a series of unoccupied restaurant buildings on the north end of the parklands to South Bank Corporation for green space.
Tuesday marks 25 years to the day Brisbane's now-iconic parklands were first opened to the public, after the site of Expo 88 was revamped into public space.
