Son of Qld MP faces child porn charges

The son of Katter's Australian Party MP Shane Knuth has been charged with child exploitation and grooming offences.

Daniel Knuth was charged by Queensland police on September 24 with possession of child exploitation material, using a carriage service for child exploitation material and grooming a child under 16.

The offences allegedly occurred this year and last.

Knuth, 19, is on bail and his case is expected to return to Charters Towers Magistrates Court on November 27.

Mr Knuth, the member for the north Queensland seat of Dalrymple, issued a brief statement on Friday, which did not address the allegations but pointed out his son had been born with dwarfism.

"Daniel is my son and will always be my son," Mr Knuth said.

"Daniel was born with a disability and nothing in his life has ever been easy for him.

"As this issue is currently before the courts it would be inappropriate for me to comment further."

Mr Knuth entered parliament as a Nationals MP in 2004 after winning the seat of Charters Towers but defected from the merged Liberal National Party to KAP in 2011.
