Shot fired at north Qld home

A resident of a Mackay neighbourhood where police are investigating a suspected drive-by shooting says it's not unusual for the area.

Police have cordoned off a property in Harrington Street in the north Queensland town after a shot was allegedly fired at a home about 7.30am on Tuesday.

The shot was fired at a window at the front of the home but neither of the two people inside at the time was injured.

A neighbour said the street was notorious for crime.

"We don't allow the kids in the street because of what happens out there," the unnamed woman told ABC Radio.

"There's a lot of violence, a lot of drive-bys.

"It's very scary."

Police are interviewing the home's residents while the car used in the alleged attack has been described as a 2010 silver Holden Commodore.
