A diver has survived an encounter with a charging bull shark after he managed to jam his spear gun down the predator's throat moments before it attacked.

Kerry Daniel, 35 was diving at the edge of a channel in north Queensland when he was set upon by the aggressive predator.

Video posted on January 8 showed Daniel floating near the surface of the water when he spotted something charging towards him.

The diver quickly realised what the object was and raised his spear gun.

Just as the bull shark was about to sink its jaws into Daniel's flesh, he managed to jam his spear gun into its mouth.

Blood filled the water as the predator thrashed around and ripped the weapon from his hands.

Daniel was forced to give up his spear gun and retreat as the shark disappeared into a cloud of blood.

The diver posted the video to YouTube saying he had never experienced this kind of unprovoked aggression from sharks before.
