Qld canoe owner safe, search called off

Police have ended the search for the owner of a canoe that was found floating off Brisbane, after he came forward to claim his wayward craft.

Police feared the owner may have ended up in the sea after the canoe, containing fresh bait and fishing rods, was found floating near South West Rocks on Peel Island on Monday.

But the man has come forward to report that he's safe, telling police he'd prepared his canoe for a fishing trip but it floated away when he was dropping his wife at work.
