Roundabout uncertainty causes fender bender in Queensland

A Queensland driver has paid the price of failing to follow basic road rules on a roundabout.

A dashcam filmed the accident at the Mt Coot-tha roundabout in Toowong, in Brisbane's inner-west, about 1.05pm yesterday.

A gold Holden hatchback already on the roundabout is seen coming to an abrupt stop when the driver apparently spots another motorist about to enter, unaware they had right of way.

Moments later the hatchback is rear-ended, sending it skidding violently and leaving the red sedan that collided with it with a crumpled bonnet.

It is unknown whether the cars pulled over to exchange details after the accident.

Those commenting on the video, which was published by Dash Cam Owners Australia on Tuesday, were quick to point out that the gold hatchback driver was not entirely at fault.

"Sad. The gold car shouldn't have stopped in the middle of a roundabout but the red car should have kept a safer distance (as the insurers and police will say)," Matthew Lew said.

"The driver of the small car obviously thought the camera car was going to plow on through the roundabout, so they stopped," Chris Smith said.

"One person is stupid enough to stop in the middle of the roundabout and the other person clearly wasn't watching the car in front of them," Mitchell Ryan added.
