Qld business used to sell guns to bikies

Semi-automatic rifles and more than 4000 rounds of ammunition have been seized from a Brisbane mechanic's workshop allegedly being used as a front to sell guns to bikie gangs.

Twelve weapons and drugs were found as part of raids on the Moorooka business on Wednesday.

Police seized long-arm firearms, including two sawn-off rifles and several assault rifles.

Detective Inspector Philip Stevens said the business was being used as a cover to sell weapons to outlaw motorcycle gangs.

"Part of business was to sell firearms in exchange for drugs, and selling drugs," he said.

"You wouldn't have distinguished it from any other automotive place."

Some of guns, well hidden throughout the business, had been modified by having their barrels cut, making them easier to conceal.

"These are all high-calibre weapons, dangerous in the wrong hands. Because they've been modified you don't know how they're going to react when they're discharged," Det Insp Stevens said.

A number of weapons are believed to have been stolen during a recent robbery on Brisbane's southside.

It is unknown how long the alleged bikie operation had been going but police believe it may be part of a larger national network.

"I don't think it's a lone wolf, (but we) don't know how many other operations are out there," Det Insp Stevens said.

Ice and cocaine, as well as drug-packaging equipment, were also discovered.

A 38-year-old man with alleged links to the Bandidos motorcycle gang was charged with a range of drugs and weapons offences.

He was granted bail and will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on March 9.

Five other people at the business at the time of the raid are assisting police with investigations.
