A zookeeper has been bitten by a wild snake at Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast.

A zoo spokeswoman confirmed the 28-year-old woman was working in a paddock at the rear of the park when she was bitten today.

The breed of snake is yet to be identified.

Paramedics were called to Steve Irwin Way in Beerwah, about 75km north of Brisbane, at 11:21am. 

The keeper was taken to Caboolture Hospital in a stable condition.

Australia Zoo is owned by Terri Irwin, wife of the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin.
