Remains found in missing Qld man's car

Police have found human remains in the car of a Queensland man who vanished more than a year ago.

Kurt Kempton's car was found near Gladstone on Friday night and on Monday police confirmed remains had been found inside.

The 26-year-old was last seen driving a grey ute in the Boyne Valley, south of Mackay, on September 11, 2014.

Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey said the car was owned by Mr Kempton.

"We are still investigating the circumstances, and who the human remains belong to," he told ABC radio.

In August last year Mr Kempton's parents told how their son had become addicted to ice before he vanished.

They recounted their efforts to get help for him, and how he was sent home when they took him to hospital.
