Higginbotham set for Sept assault hearing

Former Wallabies player Scott Higginbotham has been ordered to face court in September where he is expected to enter a plea to several charges laid after he allegedly assaulted police.

In February the 30-year-old was charged with assaulting a police officer and illegally entering a police establishment, after allegedly trying to help a friend who was arrested for urinating on a wall.

It was reported at the time the rugby flanker attempted to play "peacemaker" and allegedly forced his way into the Fortitude Valley police beat before being restrained by officers.

He was due to go to trial at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, but police prosecutor Kevin Carmont said the matter had been delisted.

It would be settled following further negotiations, which would take a few weeks, the court heard.

"It won't be going back to trial," Mr Carmont said.

Higginbotham's matter was adjourned to September 15 and he is expected to enter a plea.

"A matter of 10 minutes will tie everything up completely," Mr Carmont said.

Higginbotham has played 32 Tests for Australia and recently returned to Queensland after a stint in Japan.
