Reasons behind Games call still clouded

Queenslanders will have to wait longer to find out why the Gold Coast's Commonwealth Games organisers chose an American-owned company over three Australian bid teams to produce the 2018 opening and closing ceremonies.

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) have postponed a press conference, initially scheduled for Wednesday, to explain the appointment of Jack Morton Worldwide to orchestrate the showpiece ceremonies.

The three unsuccessful bidders have written to both Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and the state's auditor-general expressing their disappointment at the tender process.

They have yet to be debriefed by GOLDOC over the reasons for their failures, leading to the postponement of the appointment conference with JMW managing director Helen Graney.

The Palaszczuk Labor government has called in probity auditors to examine the process while Commonwealth Games Minister Stirling Hinchliffe has chided GOLDOC for bungling the announcement.

But Mr Hinchliffe doubts the decision will be overturned.
