Ravbar should stay in Labor for now: Trad

Queensland deputy premier Jackie Trad says there's nothing wrong with embattled union boss Michael Ravbar remaining in the Labor Party until he's actually charged.

Counsel assisting the trade unions royal commission earlier this week recommended that Mr Ravbar, the CFMEU's state secretary, and former state president David Hanna be charged over the removal and destruction of tonnes of union documents.

The documents were disposed of in April last year, on the same day the CFMEU was served with a notice from the commission to produce them.

Ms Trad was asked on Thursday whether she was comfortable with Mr Ravbar remaining a Labor member and a part of the party's national executive, even given the possibility of serious charges looming.

"Well, once Michael Ravbar is actually charged with something, then we can have a discussion about that," Ms Trad said.

"All of the allegations have got to be tested through the legal process.

"So let's let that legal process unfold."

Mr Hanna was also a Labor member, but resigned from the party before it could take disciplinary action against him over claims he billed the building of his luxury home to an unrelated construction project.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she wanted to emphasise that Mr Ravbar didn't hold any positions within Labor's Queensland branch.
