Rain warning for drought-stricken Qld

A deep trough that extends about 1500 kilometres across western Queensland is expected to drench drought-stricken parts of the state.

The weather bureau issued a severe weather warning for the Central West, Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego forecast districts on Saturday.

Heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast to move over the Channel Country into the far southern central-west district and the Warrego.

Towns that may be impacted are Thargomindah, Cunnamulla, Quilpie, Eromanga and Wyandra, as well as Windorah, where 100mm of rain fell on Friday.

Up to 75mm of rain is expected in some areas and a flood watch alert is in place for all catchments in the warning area.

A separate flood warning has been issued for the Flinders, Norman and Leichhardt rivers.

The deep trough extends from Mount Isa in the north to Hungerford in the south.
