Suburbs of Brisbane's southside are most likely to be targeted by thieves, figures from RACQ suggest.

The company's data on the worst postcodes for home theft insurance claims identified Macgregor, Robertson, Sunnybank and Sunnybank Hills as hotspots.

Eight Mile Plains and Runcorn also featured high on the list, followed by southwestern suburbs Doolandella, Durack, Inala and Richlands.

RACQ spokesman Mike Sopinski said over several years there had been an increase in the number of home intrusions and "sneak raids" - crimes committed while the residents are at home.

"We're reminding householders that the majority of theft is opportunistic," he said.

"Home intrusion is the main method of entry, but we're seeing doors kicked in, windows forced open and even thieves entering through open and unlocked doors."
