Queensland premier says controversial Olympics stadium plan will have lasting legacy

Queensland Premier Steven Miles has defended his stadium plan for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane, saying it will have a legacy.

Miles rejected the idea to build a new stadium in Victoria Park and has instead chosen to upgrade the QSAC, Gabba and Suncorp Stadium to host the games across the three.

In the face of criticisms, he said he couldn't always make decisions that everyone agreed with.

Miles, however, said the legacy of the games and the stadiums would live on in Brisbane.

"It will be the first Olympics for some time where the athletics track isn't just ripped up after the games," he said.

The premier also knocked back accusations Queenslanders, athletes and officials are upset over the government's back-and-forth with its plan for the stadium.

"Well, that's not my experience of the public reaction," he said.

Opposition Leader David Crisafulli has dodged questions on stadium specifics, and has instead doubled down on his mission to tackle youth crime.

He said his first act as premier would be removing laws that allow courts to only jail young offenders as a last resort.
