Man charged after alleged stabbing at Cairns school

A man has been charged after an 18-year-old woman was stabbed at a school in Cairns, in northern Queensland.

The 18-year-old man was taken into custody after he allegedly stabbed the woman during a school break in Kamerunga about 10.35am on Tuesday.

They are both believed to be students at the school.

The 18-year-old is undergoing an assessment at Cairns Hospital. Nine

Police claim the alleged stabbing was a domestic violence incident, and that there's no further threat to anybody at the school.

The man has been charged with attempted murder.

The woman remains in a critical condition in hospital.
