Queensland jobless rate needs work: Pitt

Queensland's government admits more needs to be done to get people into work with the state posting the worst jobless rate in the country.

Official figures show unemployment in Queensland has remained steady at 6.6 per cent seasonally adjusted in March.

However, along with Tasmania, it has the highest jobless rate in the country.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt says there are positives with 4800 full-time jobs created in March.

"This is an encouraging result in challenging economic conditions," he said on Thursday.

"It's Queensland's fifth consecutive monthly gain in the number of overall jobs created.

"However, we recognise that there's much more work that needs to be done."

Mr Pitt said the government was working with business and industry to grow the economy and create more jobs.

Deputy Opposition Leader John-Paul Langbroek said Labor needed to reveal its economic plans because it appeared to be "riding on a wing and prayer".

"Labor owes it to Queenslanders to outline their plan to create jobs and build the infrastructure this growing state needs," he said.

Queensland's unemployment rate remains well above the national rate, which fell to 6.1 per cent from February's revised figure of 6.2 per cent. It was initially 6.3 per cent.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics also revised down Queensland's jobless rate in February from 6.7 per cent to 6.6 per cent.

This is still higher than the 6.5 per cent recorded in January.
