Man charged with attempted murder, arson over Coorparoo house fire

A man accused of setting a Brisbane family's home alight while they were inside has been taken to hospital.

Troy Barry Fien was due to face the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning but was unable to appear.

His lawyer requested his case be adjourned without bail application because he was being taken to hospital after reportedly collapsing in the watchhouse.

The 39-year-old Wynnum West man has been charged with attempted murder, arson and trespassing offences.

Police allege Mr Fien set fire to the house on Kitchener Street in Coorparoo at 3am last Thursday while a man, woman their two young children were inside.

The two young girls and their parents managed to escape out the side window with the help of neighbours.

The entire home was destroyed in a matter of minutes, firefighters said. 9News

A neighboring house also sustained damage during the blaze. 9News

The two children, aged three and five, were transported to the Queensland Children's Hospital for smoke inhalation and burns to the face.

The fire destroyed the home and caused significant damage to a neighboring house.

The case was adjourned for further mention on October 26.
