Qld worker dies in fall

A maintenance worker has died after falling about 20 metres inside the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The 29-year-old man was working in an air-conditioning duct inside the facility when the accident happened around 10am on Thursday.

People inside the centre attempted to resuscitate the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's reported he was an experienced abseiler who was wearing his abseiling gear when he fell.

The man, who is also believed to be from overseas, was working as a contractor at the centre.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

It's the second fatal industrial accident on the Gold Coast on Thursday after a 38-year-old man died after an explosion and fire at an oil recycling plant in Yatala.
