Qld won't resurrect juvenile bootcamps

Queensland's Labor government has denied it's about to resurrect bootcamps for juvenile offenders.

Labor scrapped the former LNP government's bootcamps after winning the last election, saying millions had been wasted on a strategy that failed to break the cycle of repeat offending.

Media reports have said the government is revisiting the bootcamp model, with ministers to tour a site west of Townsville later this week.

But a spokesman for the attorney-general said that was wrong.

He said government representatives were due to tour the Townsville site to learn about an adventure-based learning program for troubled young people.

"The Palaszczuk government has no plans to revisit the misguided notion of bootcamps," the spokesman said.
