A Brisbane woman has been charged with fleecing her 80-year-old mother of her trust fund and selling off her house to pay off debts.

Police allege the daughter, 55, also used the funds to buy herself properties in both Queensland and Western Australia, while placing the elderly woman in a nursing home with no financial support.

Her actions only came to light when Centrelink referred the matter to the Adult Guardian and Public Trustee which triggered a Fraud and Cyber Crime Group investigation.

The woman, from Petrie, will face Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Friday on a charge of fraud.

"The actions of the woman constitute elder abuse," said Acting Detective Superintendent Terry Lawrence of the Fraud and Cyber Crime Group.

"Sadly elder abuse does exist and the most common forms in Queensland are financial and psychological abuse.

"Those people who have worked hard all of their lives should be entitled to enjoy their later years without harm and neglect and in the comfort they are respected, loved and cared for."
