Qld woman finishes virtual run around Aust

A Brisbane woman fighting breast cancer will become the second person to finish a gruelling 14,080km "virtual run" around Australia.

Jodie Oborne, 44, was among the first to enter the online event Run Down Under when it launched in January 2014 and the entire journey will have taken her 874 days.

"I knew back then it would be a great motivator for me to run and even record and see how far I actually run in a year," she said.

"Now that I'm reflecting on what a great experience it has been, I might actually do it physically one day."

Once signing up, runners log their distances and keep track of their progress on a virtual map of the country.

There are around 1500 registered runners, many of whom use the idea as a way to keep them motivated between other races.

The mother-of-two will complete the event at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre early on Saturday.

She will become the first woman to finish the run after Gold Coast man Stephen Wright last year completed his virtual tour.
