Qld wants national housing crisis talks

Queensland's government has called for a national crisis meeting of ministers to deal with housing affordability and homelessness.

Housing Minister Leeanne Enoch is deeply concerned about the federal government's green paper on housing reform released last month.

Its proposals include leaving the provision and funding of housing entirely to the states, leaving it to the states with the federal government providing rent assistance, or keeping it as a joint federal-state responsibility.

Ms Enoch says federal Social Services Minister Scott Morrison has made no effort to contact her since releasing the green paper and in the lead-up to COAG.

Other state ministers are also concerned, Ms Enoch warns, and the Housing Ministers' Council, which was scrapped in 2013, should be reconvened to deal with the crisis.

"I absolutely think that that is what we should be doing," Ms Enoch told AAP.

"When you think about the fundamental need of housing and the crisis that's on the horizon, as a federal government, they should be getting us all together."

Ms Enoch said even if the federal government refused to act, she would continue to talk with other state ministers, both Liberal and Labor, about the green paper and how to deal with housing and homelessness.

The minister said she was yet to speak with the Liberal NSW and West Australian housing ministers.
