Qld urged to 'go local' after cyclone

Small businesses are the "engine room" of the Queensland economy and a new campaign is in the works to build support for those struck down by Cyclone Debbie and destructive flooding, the state government says.

Small Business Minister Leeanne Enoch on Sunday announced a "suite of initiatives" were being developed to encourage Queenslanders to 'Go Local' after the wild weather, which Logan Chamber of Commerce secretary Graeme Pascoe said had even taken a toll on businesses that were spared direct damage.

"In fact, the cyclone impact has had quite a far-reaching effect even on businesses that have not been inundated. For example, the Daisy Hill Shopping Centre is still without telecommunications," he said at Beenleigh on Sunday.
