Qld train derails spilling sulfuric acid

A freight train has derailed in mid northern Queensland, spilling diesel fuel and 200,000 litres of sulfuric acid.

Three men are believed to have been injured in the accident in which all 26 carriages came off the tracks.

Police have established a 2km exclusion zone at the site, 20km east of Julia Creek.

The Flinders Highway, the main road between Mount Isa and Townsville, has been closed in both directions from Julia Creek to Richmond.

The exclusion zone is expected to remain in place until late this afternoon.
