Qld to increase drug driver testing

Queensland police will increase roadside drug tests by almost a quarter in efforts to keep drug drivers off the roads.

Police Minister Mark Ryan announced a $4.1 million boost to testing, which netted almost 11,000 drug drivers last financial year.

"That is far too many drivers and riders creating a dangerous environment for all other road users across our state," Mr Ryan said on Friday.

Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating said 502 officers are now trained to carry out RDT's, up from just 60 in 2014 when the program started.

"Much like drink driving, the community does not accept the lives of innocent people being put at risk by someone driving while affected by drugs," he said.
