Queensland Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls has labelled the state the "industrial disputes capital of Australia".

Mr Nicholls took aim at the state Labor government and what he called "union thuggery" after a video was released by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of a union official swearing at a safety advisor at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games village project.

"We have now become the industrial disputes capital of Australia and it's not good enough for (premier) Annastacia Palaszczuk not to condemn this action," the Liberal National Party leader said.

Mr Nicholls cited national figures which showed workers in Queensland had accounted for half of the 100,000 working days lost in the year to June 30.

He also claimed the actions of the union were having a particular impact on the Commonwealth Games project on the Gold Coast.

"(This is) one of the most significant projects for Queensland as we look to be on display for the rest of the world in 2018," Mr Nicholls said.
