Qld teens charged over wild party

Three teenagers have been charged over a drunken Gold Coast party that got out of control after it was advertised on social media.

More than 100 drunk and rowdy teenagers were at the party in Labrador last Saturday, where a police officer was bashed with a beer bottle.

The 15-year-old boy who allegedly hit the officer in the back of the head with the bottle has been charged with assault, while two girls, aged 14 and 16, have been charged with organising an out-of-control event.

The female officer who was attacked was assessed by paramedics but didn't require further medical treatment.

Police said the private event got out of control after it was advertised on social media.

Queensland has specific laws to deal with out-of-control parties.

Youths who organise such parties can be jailed for a year or fined $12,100, and parents and gatecrashers risk the same penalties.

The penalties are even heavier when police are confronted with aggravated behaviour or violence when shutting down such parties.

In those cases, party organisers can be fined up to $18,150 and can be jailed for three years.

The three teenagers will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
