Qld teen's Syrian trouble deepens

Queensland teenager Oliver Bridgeman, who is stranded in Syria, would already be home if not for the federal government's intervention, his lawyers say.

The 19-year-old travelled to the war-torn country one year ago after failing to come home from a trip to Bali.

His passport has been cancelled by the government in a development his lawyers described as "nonsensical".

In a further complication to his return home, Australian Federal Police (AFP) on Thursday revealed an arrest warrant had been issued for the teenager.

Bosscher Lawyers hit out at the news, saying the AFP presumably had all the relevant evidence for 12 months but chose to wait.

"It seems the government is doing everything possible to ensure Mr Bridgeman remains stranded in Syria," they said in a statement.

The AFP said Mr Bridgeman's warrant was issued after he made "incursions into foreign countries with the intention of engaging in hostile activities".
