Qld summit to focus on jobs creation

The future of Queensland employment outside the battling mining sector will be put under the microscope at the state's Jobs Growth Summit 2016 on Tuesday.

The one-day conference, headed by The Australia Institute, will be attended by state government ministers and representatives from various job sectors.

It follows the release of a report by the independent think tank last week, which showed more jobs had been created in each of the health, education and accommodation sectors than had been lost across mining.

There were 22,000 jobs lost in mining in the two years to November 2015, compared to a 43,000 increase in employment in the health care and social assistance sector.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said she wanted to hear from "industries at the frontline of job creation" in Queensland about how growth could continue over the next decade.

The Parliament House summit will be attended by representatives from the Queensland Nurses Union, Queensland Tourism, Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland, Griffith University and others.
