Qld socialite case resumes next month

The committal hearing into the alleged stabbing murder of Brisbane socialite Maureen Boyce will resume next month after a court heard the 68-year-old may have taken her own life.

Forensic pathologist Beng Beng Ong told the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday that the way a knife was embedded in Ms Boyce's stomach did not entirely suggest she was stabbed by another person.

Thomas Chris Lang has been charged with murdering his former partner in her Kangaroo Point unit on October 22 last year.

When asked by Lang's lawyer Terry O'Gorman whether the knife wound suggested self-infliction or second-party involvement, the pathologist replied: "Equivocal".

But in his opinion, Professor Ong told the court Ms Boyce was less likely to have committed suicide because her left hand was wrapped around the knife but she was right-hand "dominant".

The court heard on Thursday Lang's fingerprints weren't on the knife, while differing opinions were given about Ms Boyce's mental state in the days and weeks leading up to her death.

The committal trial, before Magistrate Belinda Merrin, will continue on October 20.
