Qld premier laughs off sign error

Queensland's premier has laughed off an embarrassing spelling mistake on a sign greeting interstate travellers to the Gold Coast.

A sign marking the state "boarder" was erected at Coolangatta last week, sparking anger from residents and a blame game between the local council and state government as to who was responsible.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Wednesday played down the error.

"That's getting fixed up; it shouldn't have happened," she said. "It's a mistake and it won't happen again."

When questioned over what it says about the state's education system, Education Minister Kate Jones chimed in with: "They didn't have prep".

The government announced earlier this week that prep would be compulsory for Queensland children from 2017.

The sign was fixed on Wednesday morning.
