Qld police probe 'suspicious' overdose

A Queensland father of four who died of a suspected drug overdose last year could have been the victim of foul play, detectives believe.

Jamie Pratt, 37, was taken to the Townsville Hospital on September 17 after the residents of a Wulguru home he was visiting called paramedics.

He died the following day and a post-mortem examination revealed he had a mixture of illicit and prescription drugs in his system.

Police said several people had called Crime Stoppers with "vital information", but on Wednesday appealed for more help.

"The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear," Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Byrnes said.

"We believe there could be other people in the community that have information."

Mr Pratt, who was unemployed, did not live at the address but was associated with several people who were at the home during the incident.

He had been injecting himself with illicit drugs in the lead-up to his death, police have established.

"We have a number of conflicting versions from a number of people, so we're seeking clarity on a number of issues," Det Byrnes said.

"I can't go into the specifics of that information."
