Explosives charges after Townsville alert

A man is facing explosives charges after police cordoned off several streets in Townsville because of a suspicious package.

Police declared an emergency situation after the package was found in Hermit Park at about 12.30pm on Thursday.

The emergency last nearly four hours and police said on Thursday night that two men and a woman have been charged with various offences related to the incident.

A 34-year-old Townsville man, charged with unlawful possession of explosives and failing to correctly store explosives, as well as drug offences, is to face Townsville Magistrates Court on September 15.

A 26-year-old man and 27-year-old woman, both also from Townsville, will appear in the same court on September 28 on drug charges.
