Gold Coast student fight ends in stabbing

A 15-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being stabbed during a fight with another boy on the Gold Coast.

The pair of Miami State High School students confronted each other on Hillcrest Parade in Miami at approximately 12.45pm on Tuesday.

One boy has been stabbed in the abdomen with his alleged attacker then fleeing the scene.

Staff from a nearby day hospital treated the injured boy before emergency services arrived.

He was then taken by ambulance to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police have locked down the street, which is a short distance from the school.

Students who were in the area at the time are being interviewed.

Jayson Hacker from the Queensland Ambulance Service said the boy had sustained a "serious" abdominal stab wound.

The location of the fight is a few suburbs away from the annual schoolies celebrations at Surfers Paradise but has no connection to that event.

The offender remains at large.
