'Three hours of anarchy' in NSW-Qld chase

A man who allegedly unleashed "three hours of anarchy" during a prolonged car chase from the NSW-Queensland border to Brisbane remains at large.

As officers continue to scour the Brisbane region for Wade Lawrence Jackson, 30, police on Wednesday warned the public not to approach the "dangerous" man whose actions endangered dozens of lives.

The saga began in Wallangarra, just north of the southern Queensland border, on Tuesday just before midday when Jackson allegedly stole petrol from a service station in a car stolen from NSW.

He abandoned the vehicle near Boonah, southwest of Brisbane, after he was chased along the New England Highway by police who failed to stop him using tyre spikes.

Superintendent Jim Keogh alleged Jackson had then stolen a second car and caused "a number of near-head-on collisions" while driving on the wrong side of the motorway on his way to Brisbane.

Dramatic footage from a police helicopter also showed a near-miss at an intersection.

Jackson is further accused of abandoning that vehicle, allowing it to roll into a property, before demanding keys from a man in a Mansfield street, in Brisbane's south, and stealing a third car.

Police eventually lost sight of that car - a blue Hyundai Getz with Queensland registration 667KGO - as it was approaching the Gateway Bridge.

More than 24 hours later, police were still trying to find Jackson but believed he had ties to the Brisbane area.

"The emphasis here is that we do consider him dangerous," Supt Keogh said.

"It's important he is taken into custody.

"This is three hours of anarchy, endangering members of the community ... and certainly a carefree attitude to wilful damage when he allows the car to roll back."

Police were also keeping an eye out for all known stolen vehicles.

The man Jackson confronted was "understandable shaken", Supt Keogh said, but not injured.

"The actions of this particular offender are best described as desperate."

He declined to go into Jackson's history.
