Qld pedophile to remain behind bars

A Queensland paedophile with a 30-year history of sexually abusing children will be kept in custody after a court ruled his dementia would prevent him from abiding by a supervision order.

William Frederick Schultz, 71, was due to be released from jail in October for his latest child abuse convictions, however the Supreme Court in Brisbane on Monday found he remained a serious danger to the community and should be detained indefinitely.

The court heard continuing efforts would be made to find a suitable secure dementia unit in an aged-care facility, at which point his conditional release would be reconsidered.
