Qld PCYC prosecuted over teen's gym death

A Queensland charity has been charged over the death of a 15-year-old boy who was pinned by weightlifting equipment at one of its gyms.

Ben Shaw died in the accident in the gym of the Pine Rivers PCYC, north of Brisbane, in September 2017.

The Work Health and Safety Prosecutor has accused the Police-Citizens Youth Welfare Association of failing to comply with a health and safety duty and exposing individuals to a risk of death or serious injury.

Health and safety officials launched an investigation before providing a brief of evidence to prosecutors.

The matter will be heard in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on November 8.
