Qld patient aides to be made permanent

Nurses who help Queensland patients understand their needs and make sure they get the right treatment will become a permanent fixture of the state's public health system.

Since 2015, nurse navigators have made sure patients with complex health issues are seeing the right people, at the right time and in the right place.

The state government will now make 400 positions permanent, with Health Minister Steven Miles announcing on Tuesday it would allocate $116 million to the program in next week's budget.

It comes on top of $396 million for redevelopments at Caboolture Hospital and a new car park there, along with $460 million earmarked for work at Logan Hospital, and a number of health-related concessions.
