Qld men charged with machete attack

Two men have been charged with attacking a couple with a machete on the Gold Coast.

A 34-year-old man and 35-year-old woman found the pair outside their Coombabah property about 2am on Saturday after they were woken by a noise.

The men, who were believed to be attempting to steal items from neighbouring homes and construction sites, fled when they were challenged by the couple.

Police alleged the pair returned to the property about 3.50am and attacked couple with a machete.

The woman was struck in the face, while the man received a cut to his forearm.

Both were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.

The 18- and 35-year-old men were found nearby a short time later.

They were each charged on Saturday with one count of unlawful possession of stolen property and two counts of acts intended to maim, disfigure or disable.

They'll appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
