Qld marine incident leads to fraud charges

A Queensland boat master's alleged failure to give way to a bulk container ship has steered police towards charging him with a much more serious crime.

The man, 46, is facing two counts of major fraud after police responded to the unrelated marine incident in Moreton Bay, off Brisbane, earlier this month.

Investigators allege he gave a false name on that day and used another false name to fraudulently sell two properties that didn't belong to him.

He's also facing three identity-theft related charges and another charge for failing to face the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

He was due to reappear on Saturday.
