Qld man who sparked Amber Alert walks free

A man who triggered an Amber Alert when he lied about having a baby stuffed in his bag has walked free from a Gold Coast court.

Ian Jensen pleaded guilty to public nuisance at Southport Magistrates Court on Friday and was given a two-month prison sentence wholly suspended for two years.

The 44-year-old walked into a Labrador service station on Thursday morning and told the attendant he had a child in his bag, before threatening to harm it.

Fearing the child may be at risk, police issued an urgent child abduction alert soon after the Brisbane man fled the store.

Police found him less than two hours later, with investigations by the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit revealing there had never been a child in the bag or at risk.
