Qld man makes fake plates to pinch petrol

A man who fits his car with fake licence plates has been pinching fuel from Gold Coast petrol stations for the past year.

Police say the man attaches home-made number plates to his car before filling up with fuel and driving away without paying.

They believe he has stolen petrol on at least six occasions in the past twelve months from service stations in Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach Waters, Southport and Ashmore.

CCTV images show the man drives a white 4WD fitted with the fake plates 172GHI.
