Queensland man accused of stabbing murder

A man charged with the stabbing murder of a woman in a remote Queensland town is behind bars.

The 29-year-old faced court on one count of murder on Friday after a domestic incident at Kowanyama, on Cape York Peninsula, on Thursday.

A 27-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in the neck and torso. She was taken to a local clinic but could not be saved.

A boy, aged six, was also stabbed. He is believed to be the woman's son.

Police say the man knew them both.

He has not been charged with wounding the boy, who is recovering in hospital.

The man was remanded until September 25 to reappear in Cairns Magistrates Court.
