Qld man charged over high-rise fall

A Surfers Paradise man has been charged after another man was left fighting for his life after falling from a sixth-floor balcony.

The 38-year-old plummeted from the Surfers Paradise high rise about 6.45am on Saturday and was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Police suspected foul play and set up a crime scene at the Orchid Avenue complex, later charging a 39-year-old man with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on January 19.
