Qld man charged over armed carjack
A 19-year-old Queensland man has been charged after he allegedly hijacked a car while armed with a handgun.
The car's driver, a 17-year-old man, told police he and his two other passengers were confronted by the man at Glenwood, on the Fraser Coast, on Tuesday night and he demanded they drive him to Chinchilla about 300km away.
The car was stopped by officers in Wondai, west of Gympie, about 11.45pm for a speeding offence where the 19-year-old asked to use a nearby toilet before fleeing.
After the man ran off, the driver and one of his passengers, a 15-year-old girl, told police they were in fear of their lives because he had a gun.
Police said the alarm was raised by the third original occupant of the vehicle who was dropped off near Gympie and then contacted them.
The 19-year-old was arrested in Wondai about 1am.
He will face Murgon Magistrates Court on Wednesday, charged with two counts of deprivation of liberty and two counts of dangerous conduct with a weapon.
