Qld man attacked cabbie, stole taxi: cops

A man has been charged after allegedly grabbing a taxi driver by the neck before stealing his cab and driving it from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane.

The 20-year-old attacked the driver at Maroochydore on Saturday after being told he cold not be driven some 100km to Brisbane, police say.

It's alleged the man pulled the taximeter from the roof of the cab, grabbed the driver around the neck and pushed a fist into his face before stealing the taxi and driving to Brisbane.

The man, from Redbank Plains, is due to face court next month on charges of high range drink driving, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and armed robbery.
