Qld man arrested for punching cop in head

A man has been arrested in a popular Brisbane entertainment strip after allegedly punching a policeman in the head.

Police say officers were breaking up an argument between a man and woman in Fortitude Valley early on Sunday morning when the man became abusive and hit a 40-year-old constable, who sustained swelling to his jaw and head.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with seriously assaulting police and contravening a banning notice and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 1.
