Qld man accused of fatal bashing after row

The trial of a man accused of beating his sick housemate to death in a small Queensland town after the pair argued over money continues on Tuesday.

Bruce Flynn, 60, died in September 2015 after a brutal beating on the rural property at Nanango, where he lived with William Arthur Feeney, 56.

Feeney is being tried for the murder in the Brisbane Supreme Court, where Crown prosecutor Dzneita Balic told the jury on Monday the bashing took place after an argument between the pair about missing money.

Just four months before that the victim had received a $28,200 benefits payout from MLC, the prosecutor told the court in her opening statements.

Ms Balic said Feeney told investigators he didn't take the money - but he also had a big sum shortly after it arrived.

"About three weeks after the deceased came into (the money) the accused, for the first time in about three-and-a-half years, was able to suddenly have $5000 to pay off a loan," she told the court.

The pair lived on a two-hectare property on the edge of the town.

Mr Flynn had met Feeney about two years earlier when the accused was homeless, and invited him to live in stables at the rear of his property.

Although neighbours' houses were 150 metres away, they regularly heard the pair fighting but on the day Mr Flynn died, they said it was the worst they'd ever heard.
